COTEC

Paying attention to the demands of Spain’s rural areas

Under the research line PIA2022 of COTEC Foundation, we examined the social demands coming from rural territories of Spain to tackle inequality, analyzing how their petitions have been portrayed in the media and debated in the parliament in the last years. This study combines different methodologies, such as the conduction of interviews or the use of civic technologies, to shed light on the inequalities affecting the rural population.

RTVE 2030

We designed an online search tool that displays the time in the news and divulgative programmes broadcasted by RTVE dedicated to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. To measure this, we use Radar ODS, an AI-powered technology that classifies all types of content. Citizens and civil society organizations can navigate the website to know how the targets and goals of 2030 Agenda are being addressed, visualizing interactive graphs and comparing programmes.

QHLD

We started a civic tech tool that systematizes, classifies and shows in a simple and accessible manner everything happening at the Congreso de los Diputados. Thus, we promote civic monitoring and accountability of our institutions, designing an open website to consult the information, extract data and generate reports. QHLD has been used by academia, by civil society organizations and by citizens, making everyday an open day at the Spanish parliament.

POLÉTIKA

We set up and lead a public advocacy and civic monitoring platform constituted by more than 500 social organizations in Spain that works in electoral contexts. For the XV Legislature, a series of strategic priorities were agreed upon to exert compromises by political parties on three areas: People, Planet and Democracy. Political Watch coordinated the dialogue among organizations, generated spaces for debate in events and launched social media campaigns during the electoral campaign.

La inteligencia colectiva salva vidas

En medio de las peores inundaciones del siglo en España, la gente corriente se ha puesto a pensar y ha utilizado la tecnología a su alcance para contribuir al bien común, creando herramientas para buscar personas desaparecidas, localizar vehículos o coordinar la ayuda de emergencia. El mensaje que esto traslada es claro: la ciudadanía no puede y no debe estar al margen de la solución de los problemas. No es que las y los ciudadanos queramos sustituir al Estado, es que formamos parte de él, y así queremos ser tratados. La maquinaria pesada pero imprescindible de lo institucional encuentra su mejor complemento en la agilidad de quien, con una idea y un ordenador, comparte sus conocimientos y los pone al servicio de quienes los necesitan.

Datos para combatir la pobreza

Con motivo del Día Internacional para la Erradicación de la Pobreza, que se celebra cada 17 de octubre, desde Political Watch hemos analizado las iniciativas parlamentarias relacionadas con este tema, para poder empezar a hablar con evidencias sobre la mesa. Y hemos detectado que solo el 20% de las 15.000 iniciativas presentadas en lo que llevamos de legislatura tiene que ver con pobreza (aunque un 76% son preguntas parlamentarias).
